POP art wedding darling! (one show only)..

I have been to a lot of weddings..  & if there’s one piece of advice I can give to anyone planning their own wedding, it is this..   Try your very best to have the wedding that YOU want.

This is exactly what Erin & Robert did.

E&R – “We want something simple & creative, we love art, we love books, we want to keep things intimate, we want a relaxed atmosphere,  & we love photography”.  So..  everything they did in the planning reflected these goals.

Ceremony & cocktail reception at GoMA, gift registry at a bookstore, they invited close friends & relatives, & decorated the deck at GoMA with funky fixtures & atmospheric lighting.  The entire day just so them.  We loved every second of it!

Robert & Erin are both keen photographers too, so yes our pre-wedding meetings went for hours talking about art, photography & camera gear, travel etc..  (and eventually the wedding)   :) It was great..  & did I mention they LOVE art..

And of course, on the wedding day, Robert could not keep his eyes off Erin, distracted only momentarily by his other love..  his Canon 5D mkII ..

SPACE INVADERS.. (kind of..)

I was lucky enough to take some time off over Christmas..  So what does a photographer do with time off ?  Go out in the middle of the night with some friends & take some photos of course!  I can’t help it..  I am addicted..   It’s who I am..  But I also call myself a photographer because photography is what I like do..

I also like music, mountain biking, & going to the movies..  & I really like dark chocolate TimTams.. & Guinness

So yes, Got a call from friends Juanita & Denise (excellento photographers), proposing a dash-for-cash overnighter at the beach for some late night, pitch-black, no moon photography.  *insert high fives & air punches*  Tripods + candles + torch + LEDs + top hats + cloak of invisibilty + broomstick + glowsticks + red wine = mission accomplished !

It was seriously great to hang out with friends & play around like camera nerds..  I would have liked a little ambient moonlight kicker as well but hey, red wine & laughter cures all..  Thanks Juanita & Denise, you guys are RAD !    :D

January 12, 2010 - 3:03 pm Paolo - some of these shots look like they are taken right from the scene of total recall and the scenery is from mars which in fact are special effects editors creating extra terrestrial images. though not the case, just some seriously sick photography. it must suck to be so good, at photography...

Catherine & Dave’s excellent adventure..

So Catherine & Dave were to be married on the Gold Coast at Burleigh Beach.  Very nice yes, & we arrived to see a busy Dave & some trusty family members holding a spot in the very public park for their ceremony.

And so begins the adventures..  Todd: “So Dave, introduce us to your Groomsmen.”  Dave: “Ahh, well, one is driving around the Gold Coast looking for his suit trousers – he’s lost them, another is flying in from the U.K. & he has phoned to advise that his plane has just landed in Brisbane!”   Todd: “Say Dave, aren’t you getting married in 2 hours?”  Dave: *smiles* “I hope so, but Taco’s here – 1 out of 3 ain’t bad…”  Todd: “Hey Taco, pleased to meet you”.  Taco: “Likewise.”  *smiles all round as Taco & Todd shake hands*..

So amidst the Kaos (yes with a ‘K’ – that’s how I roll), I was bracing myself for some very stressful situations – perhaps some tears, mild breakdowns, some silent treatment, & stamping of feet.  But no.  None of this.  It was obvious that C&D had not planned for this to happen, but their collective response was to adjust, adapt, laugh about the craziness surrounding them & move on.  It was soooo refreshing to see.

Of course, the day was spectacular – great weather, great atmosphere, awesome people, the beach, bikini babes, bare foot bowls, lots of laughs..  Another great day at the ‘office’ for us.

I am also pleased to report that the suit trousers were eventually found (in the bottom of the suit bag), & mr U.K. actually made it to the ceremony on time (just).

fridays on foot.. (the tetris effect)..

This week, amongst other things, I was reading about Socratès (or to our friends Bill & Ted..  So-Crates), the great philosopher.  One of his quotes really resonated with me.

He said, “Beware the Barrenness of a busy life”.

So one would think, it’s good to be busy right? Well yes it is.  We all have to pay the bills yes?  But as we head from a ‘blink-&-you-miss-it’ 2009, into 2010, I have recently tasted a life that is too busy..  Too busy to call my Mum, too busy to catch up with friends, too busy to eat a decent breakfast, too busy to sleep..  For 2010 I am definitely going for quality, not quantity..

However..  One can never be too busy for fridays on foot..

These guys have written the book when it comes to partying it up at your wedding reception!.. The wedding day itself was a killer & the atmosphere was electric (scroll down for their wedding post).  But it seems these guys were not even into 2nd gear..  At their reception, S & L  really took things to the next level..  Live band, choreographed bridal dance, I’m talking ALL guests on the express train to Party Central!
